Prime Minister of Thailand I President APAO | President 19th APAO Congress | President RCOPT | Secretary General

Prime Minister of Thailand

It is indeed a pleasure for me to add my personal welcome to all the participants attending the 19th Congress of Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, to be held in Bangkok during 29 November - 3 December 2003.

In our daily lives, eye health is no less significant to our well-being than other physical concerns. Fortunately, today's studies of ophthalmology have raised hopes of all patients. Ophthalmologists from all over the world are pooling their efforts in research and development for the enhancement of eye-surgical care.

The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) has long been renowned for its contributions to society, with the strong determination to disseminate the knowledge of ophthalmology throughout Asia and the Pacific as well as to elevate the standard of eye health and treatment. The APAO's efforts not only serve the great demand of patients, but also promote better quality of vision among the public in general. Certainly, many of the valuable activities APAO has carried out are through the Congress of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.

I am delighted to learn that the 19th Congress of APAO will be held in Thailand at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center during 29 November - 3 December 2003, with a large number of delegates from more than 20 nations expected to attend. It is a marvelous opportunity for Bangkok to be selected as host of this assembly in the same way that it has had the honor of hosting other international conferences, including APEC 2003. I am confident that all participants will enjoy the hospitality and pleasures this City of Angels has to offer --- whether our Thai cultural heritage, delectable Thai food or cosmopolitan shopping in a safe environment. At the same time, you will be obtaining insightful perspectives on ophthalmology from the Congress.

With the tireless efforts and cooperation of many organizations, Thailand is ready to welcome participants from all over the world. On behalf of the Thai people, I would therefore like to convey a warm welcome to all delegates and attendants to the 19th Congress of the APAO. I also wish to extend a cordial invitation to all those who are interested in participating in this important event.

With this message I send my best wishes to everyone involved in the Congress. I strongly believe that this event will be enormously beneficial to the world society, and at the same time, inspire scholars and ophthalmologists to continue their "Vision Quest" for the well-being of the world's citizens in many long years to come.

( Thaksin Shinawatra)
Prime Minister of Thailand
