Porf.John Wallwork , Papworth Hospital, Cambridge
John Wallwork, Bsc, MBChB, FRCS(E), FRCS, FRCP(E), FRCP(London),
FMedSci, MA, is currently Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery
and Director of Transplant Service at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
He qualified at Edinburgh University and has held previous appointments
in cardiothoracic surgery at Edinburgh, Glasgow and London in
the UK and at Adelaide Hospital in South Australia. Before taking
up his appointment at Papworth Hospital in 1981, he was Chief
Resident at Stanford University Hospital in California for nearly
2 years, where he first became involved in heart and heart-lung
transplantation. He has major interests in all adult cardiac
surgery and has written and lectured widely on cardiac surgery
and transplantation. He has a particular interest in heart-lung
transplantation and cardiac surgery in the elderly, together
with research into xenotransplantation, right heart failure
and the evaluation of left ventricular assist devices for long-term
mobilisation and heart failure.
